Carrying their memory
Honoring and remembering
Remembering does not keep you from moving forward. It can become one of the ways love continues to have a place in your life. There is no required gesture and no timetable—choose what feels meaningful to you.
Keep their stories close
- Gather photographs and add the names, places and stories behind them.
- Invite friends and relatives to contribute a memory, letter, recipe or recording.
- Create a small memory book, private digital collection or box of meaningful objects.
- Write down the phrases, habits and ordinary moments you do not want to forget.
Make something that carries meaning
- Use clothing in a quilt, pillow or another object you can hold or display.
- Plant a tree or create a garden in a place that invites reflection.
- Frame a handwritten note, recipe, photograph or piece of artwork.
- Choose a piece of jewelry or a small keepsake that feels personal rather than performative.
Let remembrance keep changing
You might mark birthdays and anniversaries, support a cause they valued, prepare a favorite meal or simply speak their name. What comforts you now may change over time. You are allowed to begin, stop or choose something different.
