Every kind of support matters

There is more than one way to help someone through grief.

First Hour exists because people give time, provide financial support and open doors to relationships and resources. Each form of generosity makes the others more effective.

The first way to help

Volunteer your presence and your strengths.

Not every volunteer needs to be a grief mentor. FHGR needs dependable people who can welcome guests, help with events, support office and outreach work, connect community partners and bring professional skills when they are needed.

You can begin by telling us what you enjoy, what you know how to do and how much time feels realistic. We will look for a useful fit together.

01

Turn lived loss into steady presence.

For some people, volunteering begins with the call to become a grief mentor. FHGR interviews, trains and supports people who are ready to walk beside someone carrying a similar loss. Mentorship requires an ongoing Christian faith commitment and FHGR's discernment that the time is right.

02

Bring people together around the mission.

FHGR-hosted events raise both awareness and essential funds. Volunteer at an event, attend, invite others, offer an in-kind service or explore sponsorship through your business or organization.

Open a door in your workplace or community.

Companies, schools, churches and community organizations can host grief education, sponsor programs, encourage employee giving, provide matching gifts or help introduce FHGR to people who share the mission.
